Wisdom of the Flight!

Wisdom of the Flight

by Alador Guldalian

While human lies are easily discerned by the length of explanation, dragon lies are short. It is a dragon that you can trust that spends an hour explaining what could have been given in five short words.

When I needed it most!

It has been a disheartening weekend with the rain at the festival.  I came home to these two reviews on Goodreads.  I  want to send my heartfelt thanks out to Lorraine Carter and Simon for taking the time to write these out!  They really made my day.

Beautifully described landscapes and mysterious Dragon Lore; the warmth of genuine relationship and the wretched loneliness of being different. Cheryl Matthynessens captures it all writing, in this fantastical series of which Bloodmines is the latest release. She has the gift of being able to conjure for the reader a vast, vibrant canvas as well as embroidering the intricate details within it to create a genuinely enthralling story.

Simon rated it 5 of 5 stars
Fantasy should be overwhelmingly intriguing, transporting the reader to a different time and place and this is what happens with Bloodmines. You simply shut the door, start turning the pages and you find yourself in a completely different and brilliantly imagined world. Without a doubt my favourite fantasy novel of the year to date!

Ups and Downs in the Life of a Writer

So... five hours of travel.... two hours of set up and awesomeness by Theresa Snyder ... to have it pour.  It rained on the 2015 NW Book Festival.  It hasn't rained in weeks and it chooses this day to break that trend.  The upside was that the set up was beautiful.  Theresa did an amazing job with the visuals for our booth.  We even had a board where you could take a picture with her dragon, Farloft.  But due to the rain, as you can see, there was little traffic.

Another upside for me was getting to spend a wonderful two days with my author friend.  We make a good pair as we are similiar enough to work together, but different enough to appeal to different readers.  But to be honest, the best is that Theresa Snyder and her entourage are genuinely delightful people to spend time with.

So thank you to all those that set up this fair, who stopped by our booth, and specifically to Theresa's team!

Since.. I ordered so many books.  I will be running an ebay sale of signed copies if anyone is interested.  I hope to have them all listed by 7/27/15.  Need to move this inventory before I go in for that kidney removal.  Thanks for all your support.  You are the reason I can keep smiling in the face of this year of continued challenge.

I Hope to Meet You in Portland This Weekend!

Hey all,

I put off surgery so I could attend the NW Book Festival in Portland this weekend.  If you are anywhere close, bring your copy and I will sign it for you.  Theresa and I will be in space 21.  We will have a line of sight view of Starbucks.  So I will have plenty of energy!!

If you have an electronic copy, there is a link on the side here to have me e-sign it.  Not as fun or personal, so stop by and at least say hi!

We will have bookmarks, drawings for free books and audios, and a dragon cut out of Farloft.  You can get your picture with him as a dragon, or well... the kids can.  *winks*

I really hope to see you all between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Daezun as a DND Character

I received a request to make Daezun a playable race in the D&D model.   I am not a fan of edition four so the following was made with 3.5 in mind. I have been assured that it would work with 4E as well.   I am honored that I was asked to create a basic format to use the Daezun as a playable race for an rpg game.   Have fun and enjoy!

Daezun (Daezun are a copyrighted creation and therefore cannot be used in published work without permission.  However, for game play and personal enjoyment, have fun!)

The Daezun are a hardy people from the Great Isle  The two races of the isle trade frequently as the Daezun are a people who, much like dwarves, excel at working stone and gems.   They rarely grow to over 5'  6" and are thicker in the body then the average human. They have rounded features and thick noses.  They are ruddy in coloring.  They have extraordinary vision when it comes to archery and excel in this skill.  Their eyes are always brown.  A half-daezun with jeweled eyes will be leaner and has the possibility of learning magic.  (See Lerdenian)

Their government is a gerontocracy (government by the aged).  They do not take a wife/husband. Instead, there is a mating ritual held at the summer solstice so that new children are born during the winter. This isle has heavy snows and the Daezun have timed even their births to insure that all able bodied individuals can work during the mining and harvest seasons.  Some times they will house together and the male helps raise the children even though he may not have fathered them.

They revere dragons and nature and most are very dedicated to one of the Daezun gods or all of them generally.

+2 Strength, -2 Charisma.
Medium: As Medium creatures, daezun have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Deazun base land speed is 30 feet.
Stability: A Deazun gains a +4 bonus on ability checks made to resist being bull rushed or tripped when standing on the ground (but not when climbing, flying, riding, or otherwise not standing firmly on the ground).
Bonus Feat: Point Blank Shot. They have the option of taking Point Blank Shot Again, increasing the ranges to 60 feet.
+1 racial bonus on Balance, and Spot checks.
4 extra skill points at 1st level and 1 extra skill point at each additional level.
Automatic Languages: Common, Lerdenia dialect, and Deazun. Bonus Languages: Any (other than secret languages, such as Druidic). See the Speak Language skill.
Favored Class: Fighter. A multiclass deazun’s fighter class does not count when determining whether he takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing

Insertion - Live Writing

(Please remember that other than a quick spell check, live writes are not edited. They are warm-ups for me, glimpses for my readers of the world of Vesta beyond the great isle, and ideas for future novels.  I love feedback so if you see something that you would like me to move to novel ... please let me know.)

Hythinca placed the poultice on her leg and carefully bound it with strips of cloth.  She was going to have to admit to King Jesparian that she had again failed to get close to the dwarven king.  The man had a second sense for magic of any nature close to him.  She had thought she had kept just far away enough that he would not sense her true nature. Hythinca winced as she tied the strips tight over the poultice.

Her error had almost gotten her killed.   If this leg wound did not start healing, it would still do so.  She sighed as she pulled down her leather skirt.  She might as well get this over with for King Jesparian was not a man to keep waiting.  She did not fear death at his hands.  He had no other shapeshifter at his call.  Her gift seemed outside any sphere of magic.  It was a unique manifestation of magic and it was the only magic she held.

It was no surprise when she was ushered straight into the King's private parlor.  He was sitting with his feet on his writing table.  The room was plush and furnished in shades of deep greens.  The table seemed almost a trunk of wood to the sprawling carpets and forest wall hangings.

Hythinca limped to stand before it and laid several sheets of parchment before him.  She dropped a deep curtsy then stood quietly with her hands clasped behind her back.

Cover Art For Next Book

http://ursatomic.deviantart.com/art/Blizzard-Lights-535406422

Heather has exceeded my hopes once again.  I hope you will all stop by the link in the caption and give her some positive feedback.  She is considering stopping cover art.  I love her work and hope she will continue to do covers for me and many more authors.

This cover represents when Alador casts the spell his uncle has been seeking for some time.  Rena, one of the dragons that helped with his instruction, hovers nearby.  She still harbors a crush on the mage despite even her father telling her there is no hope.

Will Alador continue his assault upon the Daezun with the winter spells?  Will Rena win his heart despite the differences in species?  Find out in the soon to be released fourth book of the Blue Dragon's Geas!  Pseudo-Dragon.
